The artist name “nodeps” harkens back to a time in the late 90’s, when I built my first computer, from random parts purchased at a Fry’s Electronics. Sun Microsystems was still in business, teenagers knew of IBM, and people were forced to pay for a Windows license, with nearly any pre-configured PC sold on the market. It was a really fun and at times, a quite stressful time in my life. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I spent an inordinate amount of time piecing together how everything fit and functioned, in tandem. This foray into the world of computer systems technologies served as the catalyst for my current exploration of music through electronic means and the habits I picked up while struggling to build PC’s (and to get basic functions to work on Linux) are what drive me to make music with a computer, today.
While the times have changed, the driving force behind my interest in music has remained the same. Combining the techniques of performance and persistence when dealing with electronics and software is how I spend most of my time. I have grown accustomed to learning the ins and outs of various DAWs, plugins, and interfaces, while experimenting with synthesizers, modulators, and other analogue tools.
The music on this site is both an expression and an exploration of something a little nerdy, kind of naughty, and definitely technical.
“The –nodeps option allows RPM to continue installing despite the fact that I’m missing a handful of packages that $package depends on. This shouldn’t be done as a matter of course, but for a quick test, is fine. So far so good.”
